OUR HISTORY

A Legacy Built for the Future

Pinnacle Living (formerly Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc.) started with a handful of people in the Virginia Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in 1948. These passionate individuals championed the idea of senior living communities in Virginia similar to the first Asbury community in Maryland.

Bernard and Armen Via, founders of Hermitage Richmond, left their home in Charlottesville to answer the call. The Snyder family of Richmond offered their home for this inaugural community and became its first residents. The Vias moved into a one-bedroom apartment and lived alongside the first residents.

As the need for services for seniors in the western part of the Commonwealth became more evident and good prospects for local support grew, our organization moved west to Roanoke.

Over the next 25 years, our organization continued to grow. Dramatic changes in our residents’ expectations, needs and demands brought forth a new era for retirement communities. Pinnacle Living responded by developing Cedarfield and WindsorMeade Williamsburg, helping us serve more seniors than ever.

Our name, Pinnacle Living, reflects our mission of Enriching Life’s Journey for those who seek independence combined with a secure plan for the future. We are proud of our heritage and continue to operate as a mission-driven organization that welcomes people of all faiths. Today, our name positions us for the future as we strive to serve the next generation even better.
